Using SMS Tasks Control Your Android Via Messages

The best feature of owning an android phone is that it enables users with a variety of functions especially after rooting their smartphone or tablet. These also allows users to modify many functions rather than what is provided by the launchers. Developed by XDA member jkok, SMS Tasks is a small app that allows you to command your android phone via SMS. These commands range from changing its WiFi, Bluetooth, data features.

On launching for the first time, the app will ask for root access if your phone was rooted, on enabling it, the app then allows you to use all the root- only commands. In order to increase your security features on the app's home screen you can set a pass phrase with your commands. The default set pass phrase is a blank one. In the More Setting section, you can enable the app’s service to make it start listening to your commands, set it to read all the incoming SMS messages, and also set it to disable wildcard support for potentially dangerous commands.

The command supported by the app include :

  • GPS tracking
  • Wiping SD Card
  • Uninstalling apps (root)
  • Shutting down, restarting or rebooting the device into recovery (root)
  • Sending toast messages to the phone
  • Making the phone speak the text you send to it
  • Make the phone sound an alarm, and stop it when you want
  • Using terminal commands (root)
  • Bypassing security lock screen (root)
  • Toggle phone settings such as WiFi, Bluetooth, mobile data, NFC and more
  • Using terminal commands (root)
  • Performing factory reset
and more can be done. All  you need is to do is just sent an SMS with the desired command, and the operation you have asked will be done.

If needed any rather details about SMS Tasks, you can visit the XDA Developers forum.
