Get Acess to Wikipedia, Wikileaks & More For Reading Offline On Windows, Mac, Linux & Android Using Kiwix - Kiwix.org

As you all know Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia is the seventh ranking website globally among the websites on Alexa and having an estimated 365 million readers world wide. And now you can use an app named Kiwix to download and read the entirety of Wikipedia completely offline.


However Kiwix really is a powerful offline Wiki Reader, but the fact is that even thought its been a while since Kiwix came and we didn't really come across this one. The programme was built in such a way that it can easily carried while using for the first time you will have to download the catalog of available wikis which is mandatory. Click on the Yes and also 'Do not ask anymore' as shown.

Once the catalog is ready, you can click on File > Browse library to see the list of available wikis you can download for reading offline (seen in title image).


As part of testing, i downloaded Wikipedia in Simple English (730 MB). If you really want a full version then you will have to download the 9GB file to get access to all the wiki data. And also you wont be able to find the latest updates on Kiwix since the file was downloaded earlier.

Well coming to its performance part, Kiwix works much better than any of the other offline readers. You can quickly search for new wikis to download from the Library view, download and 'install' in one click, and add notes, bookmark pages, export pages in PDF or HTML, and read multiple Wikipedia pages with tab facilities. For advanced users, it can also be set up as a web server allowing people on your network to access Kiwix from the local server without downloading huge files.
