How to root Motorola Milestone (Qwerty Phone) using Superuser on PC or Mac

It was bit late for the arrival of the "Root" for the Motorola's Milestone, but anyway now its available you and also in making you attaining direct access to your system files. Well this might help you in modifying the the phone's firmware in installing custom themes, apps and custom OS/Rom. As similar to that of a jailbreak!



This Root process for Motorola Milestone is compatible with Android 2.0 of the devices and also available to the latest version 2.0.2 OTA software update that was being released. So, its better to update your software version to 2.0.1, for rooting your device using the prescribed steps that is given below.

Recommended you in updating your current version if its on Android 2.0, then Please update to the latest version Android 2.0.1 operating system over the air (your device should prompt you to update the system software automatically)


Step 1 -
Download the Android 2.0.1 "super user" update file





Step 2 - Rename the file downloaded in step 2 to update.zip


Step 3 - Plug your MILESTONE into your computer via USB and go to the notifications bar, select USB Connected then tap Mount


Step 4 - Once the device is mounted, the SD card will appear as a removable device on your computer


Step 5 - Copy the update.zip file created in step 3 to the root (top) directory of your SD Card


Step 6 - Unmount the MILESTONE and power it off


Step 7 - Hold down the 'X' key on the physical keyboard and simultaneously press the power button


Step 8 - Continue to hold both buttons from step 8 down until you see a triangle symbol with an ! (exclamation point)


Step 9 - Release the 'X' and power button and now press both volume+ and the camera button -- you will then be presented with a menu


Step 10 - Using the directional pad on the physical keyboard, highlight apply update.zip and press the select key


Step 11 - Once the upgrade is complete, select the option to reboot the phone


That's all You are done!
