How to Update your Motorola's DROID's operating system without waiting for an OTA update Using a MAC or PC

This is a simple procedure in how to upgrade your Droid's OS without waiting for an OTA update



You can upgrade any Android phone without waiting for an OTA update to upgrade their OS. In fact these Android devices are easier to update! For this all you need is a MAC or PC and a data cable that suits your Device to your MAC / PC.

So lets get started!


Step 1 - Download the latest compatible Android OS to your desktop (Download from Google's Android site)


Step 2 - Right-click the downloaded ZIP file and rename it to "update.zip" (no quotes)


Step 3 - Connect your DROID to your PC or Mac using the data cable and put the phone in mass storage mode


Step 4 - Once your DROID appears as a drive, drag the update.zip file to the root directory of your memory card


Step 5 - Unmount your DROID, disconnect the data cable and turn the phone off


Step 6 - While holding the "X" key on the DROID's keypad, turn your phone back on (this will enter recovery mode)


Step 7 - Once an exclamation point within a triangle appears on the screen, press the camera button half way down and press the volume-up key simultaneously


Step 8 - Highlight “apply update.zip” and press the select key on the directional pad to begin installing the update


Step 9 - Once the update has been installed, reboot your DROID


And that's all!
You are now ready to setup your freshly updated OS on your Device if you have followed the steps clearly.
