Set Up, Customize And Use Do Not Disturb On Your iPhone

Do Not Disturb is one of the useful features of iPhone. Do Not Disturb is a profile setting through which you can easily turn off your phone's ringtones and other alerts. You can even route your calls to voice mails. This feature appears to be really useful if you want to attend a meeting or when you go to bed. So in this article we show you how to customize your Do Not Disturb Settings.

You should remember that Do Not Disturb is entirely different from Mute. You can easily mute your phone using the mute switch which is at the left side of your phone, above the volume buttons. When you turn it on, it affects the volume settings across apps, which includes ringtones, app alerts and game audio. But it does not mute your alarms and music apps.

Do Not Disturb silences alerts from mails, messages and other apps, ringtones, and hence your iPhone will not ring or vibrate. Your iPhone screen will not even wake up the display to show you notifications. You can only check these by unlocking your screen. A crescent moon icon at the top of the screen, next to the battery life, shows that you have turned on Do Not Disturb.

First let us look the ways by which you can turn on Do Not Disturb mode

1. Control Center

It is the easy method to turn on Do Not Disturb mode. Swipe up the control center from the bottom of your screen at any time and tap on the crescent shaped moon to turn it on.

2. Settings Menu

Launch Settings > Do Not Disturb and switch on Manual. The crescent moon icon at the top of the screen indicates that Do Not Disturb mode is turned on.

3. Schedule Do Not Disturb for certain time in a day

If you wish to keep your phone silent for only certain time in a day, you can easily schedule Do Not  Disturb to turn on and off at the required time. If you want to step up for a meeting from 10 am- 12 pm, you can easily schedule Do Not Disturb to turn on and off at the required time through the following steps.

Step 1: Launch Settings from your home screen and then select Do Not Disturb.

Step 2: Enable Scheduled. When you enable scheduled, From and To times will appear below. You can change the From and To timings by tapping on the arrow next to it.

Step 3: Change the From time to when you want the Do Not Disturb to turn on and change the To time to when you want to turn it off.

Step 4: Tap Back when you finish adjusting the timings.

4: Be alerted to calls from your favorite contacts

Even if you do not wish to get disturbed by silly messages and other alerts, you may wish to stay connected with your close contacts such as family and close friends. So let us look how to stay alerted to your close contacts while Do Not Disturb is turned on.

Step 1: Add those desired contacts to your favorite lists.

Step 2:  Tap Settings and then tap Do Not Disturb

Step 3: Select Allow Calls From and then tap favorites in the options on the next screen. You can either choose to allow calls from everyone or from no one.

Step 4: Tap Back to confirm your selection.

Now if you want to get the calls from others who are urgently calling you but not in the favorites list, you can get the second call from that caller. But note that you will get the second call only if the time difference between the first call and second call is less that 3 minutes. For that you have to enable Repeated Calls under Do Not Disturb.

5. Choose whether to have your iPhone silenced only when it is locked or all the time

Step 1: Tap Settings and then select Do Not Disturb.

Step 2: Scroll down to the Silence section. If you wish to keep your iPhone silent always- even when you are using it, then tap Always. If you want to keep your iPhone silent only when it is locked, then tap Only When iPhone Is Locked.

With these settings, you can stay as you wish with your iPhone.
