How To Install iOS 7.1.2 iPhone, iPad And iPod Touch



Apple has released iOS 7.1.2 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch mainly for some bug fixes and security updates. Read ahead if you wish to install the iOS 7.1.2 update on your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

How to install iOS 7.1.2 update wirelessly over the air ( OTA )

It is always better to plug in your device before you start the download so that you can avoid the drainage of your battery during the process. Depending on your internet connection and how the Apple's servers handle the load, the process can last from few minutes to an hour. Also make sure that your device is connected to your local Wi-Fi network so that you will not be charged for downloading the update over your cellular connection. Moreover if you are planning to jailbreak your device in the future, it is better to avoid OTA updates as it can create issues with the jailbreak.

So once you are ready with all these precautions, open the Settings app and then tap on General > Software Updates.


 iOS will look for available updates automatically and will inform you that iOS 7.1.2 update is available. Select Download to download the update. The download process would take sometime. Your iPhone or iPad will send you a notification when the update is ready. Then you need go back to the Settings app and select General > Software Update as earlier. The downloaded iOS update file will be shown there. Tap Install to install the file.

Some users had reported that the update process stops midway. If you come across this issue, then try doing a hard reset as it seems to fix the issue.

Jailbreakers please note that OTA updates will be disabled if you had used evasion and Pangu jailbreak. If you want to do the update, you will have to update your device through iTunes. So jailbreakers, please read ahead.

How to install iOS 7.1.2 update via iTunes

Some of you may prefer to physically connect your iOS device to a computer through a USB cable and update their phone through iTunes. One of the main advantage of updating your phone through this method is  that there is less chance of an error during the download and the install process as you are not using any Wi-Fi signal. But be sure that you are using latest version of iTunes. You can click iTunes on the menu bar and select Check for updates for getting the latest version. Or else you can directly go to Apple's iTunes download page which allows you to download iTunes 11.1.5.

Connect your device to your computer via an USB cable. Wait for iTunes to open and connect to your device. Click on your device in iTunes and click Check for updates or Update button. The available updates will be shown,if any. Download and install iOS 7.1.2. Be sure not to disconnect your device from your computer during the process.

How To Install iOS 7.1.2 update using firmware file via iTunes

If the iOS 7.1.2 update is not available to you via OTA updates and iTunes, then you can follow these steps to get the update.

Step 1: Download the iOS 7.1.2 firmware file (IPSW) for your device.

Step 2: Connect your iOS device to your computer via an USB cable and wait till iTunes open and connect to your device.

Step 3: Click on device button to the left of the iTunes Store button at the top right corner in iTunes.

Step 4: Hold the Option key ( Mac) or the Shift key (Windows) and click Check for updates in the summary pane.

Step 5: Browse the download ipsw file and select it.

Make sure that you do not disconnect your device during the process.
