How to manually update your Google Play edition HTC One to Android 4.4 KitKat

The update for the Google Play edition HTC One to Android 4.4 KitKat has been slowly roiling out to certain handsets via on over-the-air update. But for some of the devices the OTAs, are receiving the updates right away.

Fortunately today, am here with an alternative way of updating your device and much easier than the usual sideloading method. This entire process need not need an external secondary device like Laptop / PC.

Before we begin its recommended to read the full disclaimer before getting started.

Disclaimer : Attempt this at your own Risk! Recommended that you may please read the detail Disclaimer before your proceed. By reading this you may Please accept our policies to get the instructions leading you root your Device. Please don't use these steps in rooting a non prescribed device.

Now, if you are ready then you might need to check some prerequisites.

You'll need a Google Play edition HTC One running 100 percent stock Android 4.3 firmware — build JWR66Y.H1 — check under Settings > About phone > Build number.

This won't work on the HTC One with HTC Sense UI, so don't try it on that device.

Make sure you have a reasonable amount of battery charge remaining — at least 50 percent.

So lets get started!

Step 1 - From your phone, click the link below to download the over-the-air update package directly from Google.

{Download Android 4.4 KitKat OTA for HTC One Google Play edition (320MB)}

Step 2 - When it's done, shut down your phone and disconnect any cables.

Step 3 - Hold your volume down and power keys until the bootloader starts up. (You should see colored text on a black screen.)

Step 4 - Using the volume keys, navigate down to RECOVERY and press power.

Step 5 - Wait until the icon has stopped spinning and you see the android with the red exclamation mark above it.

Step 6 - First hold volume up, then (with volume up held down) press power to enter the main recovery menu.

Step 7 - Navigate down to "apply from phone storage" and press power to select

Step 8 - Navigate down to "0/", then "Download/", then select the file you downloaded in step 1 (the one starting "545beb")

Step 9 - Let the updater do its thing — it may take a few minutes — then when you see the message "Neet (sic) to Reboot to flash firmware.zip", select "Reboot system now" from the menu and press the power button.

Step 10 - Wait for the update to finalize

That's all, now you can have a Google Play Edition HTC One on Android 4.4!

If You have any queries, please comment below to get cleared before or after the process.
